The Pune Municipal Corporation's two waste management projects in Hadapsar, a shed upgrade and a new mechanised transfer station, have moved into implementation.

Pune, November 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has moved its waste management projects in Hadapsar into the implementation stage. The step is seen as an effort to strengthen civic amenities in the growing area. It covers two works: an upgrade of the existing waste handling facility at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate, and a separate mechanised waste transfer station at Hadapsar Ramp.

The two projects serve different needs of Pune's municipal waste system. One involves improving an old site, while the other involves building a new facility with machinery.

On the Hadapsar Industrial Estate: on May 8, 2026, it emerged that the PMC standing committee had approved a proposal to cover the existing waste transfer and processing facility with a shed and improve its ramp. The facility reportedly receives about 200 metric tonnes of municipal waste a day, collected from five divisions of the city. The upgrade was proposed after complaints from local residents, who were troubled by the stench and scattered waste.

Under tender reference PMC/SWM/2025-26/45, an industrial shed is to be built on Plot No. 100 at the Hadapsar Industrial Estate. Other procurement records put the estimated cost of the project at about Rs 6.59 crore and the lowest financial bid at about Rs 5.52 crore. Work has reportedly now begun. The ongoing construction and the proposed civil improvements are expected to make a considerable difference to present conditions and bring relief to residents. How far construction has progressed and when the improvements are completed will be key things to watch.

The second project is a mechanised municipal solid waste transfer station at Hadapsar Ramp, a separate PMC initiative. Under tender reference PMC/SWM/2025-26/31, it covers design, construction, supply of equipment, installation, commissioning and five years of operation and maintenance. According to other procurement information, the project is valued at about Rs 20.47 crore, with a capacity of at least 200 metric tonnes of waste a day.

When the mechanised station starts helping with waste transfer depends on how soon the facility reaches commissioning. Once operational, the proposed mechanised set-up is expected to make municipal waste transfer considerably better and stronger.

Hadapsar has older residential neighbourhoods as well as commercial and industrial activity, so reliable municipal services are essential for the area's growth. Waste transfer facilities link door-to-door collection with the onward journey of waste to processing or an authorised disposal site. Their design, handling capacity and maintenance can affect the pace of the whole operation.

The industrial shed project focuses on improving the existing facility, while the Hadapsar Ramp initiative involves a separate mechanised station. As implementation proceeds, confirmed information on construction, commissioning and operational preparedness will show how much these investments benefit Pune's waste management system.
