Pune, November 5, 2026: Amid rising dengue cases, swine flu has now become another concern for Pune. According to the state health department, Pune recorded 789 swine flu cases and three deaths between January and October this year. This is the highest figure for any city in Maharashtra.

According to the department's data, Maharashtra recorded 2,858 swine flu cases and 35 deaths in these 10 months. The number is much higher than the 379 cases of 2025, but lower than the 1,460 cases recorded in 2024.

Mumbai comes next after Pune in terms of cases, with 648. Nagpur recorded 413 cases and Nashik 376. Pimpri Chinchwad reported 159 cases, while Kolhapur district had 128.

On deaths, Nagpur had the most, at 23. It is followed by Nashik with eight, Pune with three and Navi Mumbai with one.

The department said 13.1 lakh people were screened in the state between January and October. Of these, 4,375 were found suspected, and 2,858 of them tested positive.

The health department said the influenza vaccine is available free and on a voluntary basis for high-risk groups. These include pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, patients with diabetes and high blood pressure, and health workers.

According to the department, suspected patients are being monitored and treated on the basis of their symptoms. Isolation facilities have been arranged at district and sub-district hospitals and medical colleges. Government and private hospitals have been asked to keep adequate stock of oseltamivir, the antiviral drug used to treat swine flu.

The department has also directed that deaths from influenza, including H1N1 and H3N2, be reviewed regularly. The aim is to examine the circumstances in which each death occurred and whether there was any shortcoming in treatment.
