Pimpri Chinchwad, October 27, 2026: Dengue cases in the city have risen sharply. In the first 25 days of October alone, 90 people tested positive for dengue, taking the city's total for the year to 212. The city has also recorded 41 malaria cases.

According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's medical department, the weather is changing. Mornings and evenings are cold, while days are very hot. Mosquito-borne diseases have increased in the meantime.

In October, 1,726 patients were tested on suspicion of dengue, of whom 90 were positive. Samples of 29,483 people were tested on suspicion of malaria, and 13 tested positive this month. Four suspected cases of chikungunya have also been reported.

The most dengue cases have been found in Bhosari, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Wakad, Thergaon, Pimple Saudagar, Moshi and Chikhli. The medical department said housing projects are under construction in these areas and water collects at the sites, creating good conditions for mosquitoes to breed.

Stagnant water on the terraces of housing societies and water collected in discarded junk has also contributed to mosquito breeding. The administration has appealed to residents not to let water collect in fridges, flower pots and other containers in and around their homes.

Health Medical Officer Dr Laxman Gophane said, "Dengue larvae breed in clean water. People should make sure water does not stand anywhere in or around the house. Cases had risen at the start of the month, but the pace of increase is now slowing."

Meanwhile, five swine flu cases have tested positive in the city in October, against 58 in September, a decline in infection. The medical department said the changing weather has also increased the number of patients with cold, cough and fever. Patients from different parts of the city are being treated in hospitals.

Swine flu symptoms are similar to those of seasonal flu. They include fever, cold, cough, sore throat, body ache and fatigue. Some patients may also have difficulty breathing.

The medical department has advised people to avoid crowded places, wear masks, wash their hands frequently and keep their distance from people showing symptoms of respiratory illness. Young children, pregnant women and the elderly have been asked to take special care and to see a doctor if they develop a fever.
