Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation suspended Chief Engineer Pramod Sudhakar Ombhase and ordered a departmental inquiry after his arrest over a bribe demand.

Pimpri Chinchwad, November 5, 2026: Pramod Sudhakar Ombhase, chief engineer of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has been suspended. He had been arrested in a case of demanding a bribe of Rs 19,000 to clear a contractor's tender file. Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi on Wednesday (November 4) also ordered a departmental inquiry against him.

The suspension is deemed to take effect from October 29, the day Ombhase was arrested. He was working as Chief Engineer-2 at the civic body's civil engineering headquarters.

According to the suspension order, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation found that Ombhase allegedly demanded a bribe of 0.5 per cent of the tender amount, or Rs 19,000, to sign a contractor's tender file. A case was registered against him at Sant Tukaram Nagar police station, and he was then arrested. A court has sent him to judicial custody until November 14.

The municipal administration said Ombhase misused his post and authority, bringing the corporation into disrepute.

The department concerned has been directed to issue a charge sheet within 15 days and to appoint an inquiry officer and a presenting officer as soon as possible.

During the suspension, Ombhase cannot leave the municipal headquarters without prior permission from senior officials. He also cannot take up any other job or business. He will receive a subsistence allowance only if he submits a declaration every month that he is not engaged in any other work. The order also warns that separate disciplinary action will be taken against him if he engages in any misconduct at the municipal office or its premises.
