PMC fines 22 people Rs 22,400 for spitting and littering at Swargate Chowk
A joint squad of three ward offices collected the fines in a drive against spitting and littering in public places.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) collected a total of Rs 22,400 in fines from 22 citizens who dirtied the Swargate Chowk area by spitting and littering. The action was taken on November 5, 2026, as part of a PMC drive against spitting and littering in public places.
The action was carried out by a joint squad of three ward offices, Kasba Peth, Vishrambaugwada and Bibwewadi, which fall under Zone 5 of the PMC. The three offices formed the squad together and acted in the Swargate Chowk area. The drive was run under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap.
According to the civic administration, spitting in public places helps spread disease and also spoils the cleanliness and appearance of the city. The PMC has stepped up enforcement so that such habits are curbed and public spaces stay clean.
The corporation said action will continue regularly against individuals as well as commercial establishments found spitting or littering on public roads. The rule will therefore apply not only to individual citizens but also to shops and other commercial establishments.
The PMC has appealed to Punekars to follow the rules of public cleanliness and not to spit or litter in public places. The corporation said the action underlines that responsibility for following cleanliness rules rests with every citizen.
