The new Man-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar line drew 50,000 riders on Wednesday, with over 20,000 using both Pune Metro and Maha Metro services.

Pune, Nov 6, 2026: The newly opened Man-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line, the Pink Line, carried 50,000 passengers on Wednesday, November 4, its first day of service. Most offices and commercial establishments in the city were shut that day for the Diwali holidays. Drawing so many passengers despite this indicates that the new line has received a good response from the public.

More than 20,000 of these passengers used both Pune Metro and Maha Metro services through the interchange facility, meaning they travelled on both metro services.

District Court metro station saw the heaviest crowds on the new corridor, with about 25,000 passengers through the day. The station is an important interchange that connects the Pink Line to Pune railway station and several parts of the city.

According to the passenger figures, 11,460 people travelled on Pune Metro. A total of 8,969 passengers switched from Pune Metro to Maha Metro, and the same number, 8,969, switched from Maha Metro to Pune Metro. Maha Metro's total ridership that day was 2.73 lakh.

Ridership is expected to rise after the Diwali holidays, and the frequency of services on the Pink Line will be increased accordingly. Trains will run every five minutes during peak hours and every eight minutes during non-peak hours.

The 23-km journey from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is expected to take about 40 minutes. It is said to bring relief to IT professionals and other office-goers who commute daily between the two areas.

Passengers also welcomed the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) facility. Under it, passengers can travel on all corridors of Pune Metro with a single card, without needing separate tickets for different lines.
