PMC gets Defence land at Ghorpadi to widen Koregaon Park-Hadapsar road to 30 metres

Pune, October 24, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received working permission to use 8,883.24 sq m of Defence department land at Ghorpadi. North Main Road will be widened on this land. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the road will be widened to 30 metres before the next monsoon.

Ram wrote on X, "We have received possession of Defence department land to widen North Main Road, which connects Koregaon Park to Hadapsar railway station. This will bring great relief to daily commuters and also boost business along this stretch." He also thanked the Chief Minister and the Union Ministry of Defence for their support.

Under the project, a stretch of about 2 km from ABC Farm Chowk to Tadigutta Chowk will be widened. The road is now about 15 to 18 metres wide and is to be widened to 30 metres. The aim is to reduce crowding and congestion on the Koregaon Park-Mundhwa corridor.

The Ministry of Defence had permitted the work on September 17 under the Equal Value Infrastructure (EVI) arrangement. The land, comprising survey numbers 40 and 41, is valued at Rs 29.86 crore. Vikas Kumar, Defence Estates Officer, Pune Division, said PMC will have to provide infrastructure of equal value. The corporation will also bear the entire cost of widening the road and all related work.

Sachin Bagade, executive engineer at PMC, said work on some portions is in its final stage. After the required process is completed, the Defence department will formally hand over the land. PMC will then first build a boundary wall and then widen the road. The process may take a few weeks.

The road is an important route linking Koregaon Park, Mundhwa, Magarpatta, Pune Cantonment, Kalyani Nagar and Hadapsar railway station. PMC had proposed widening this stretch in December 2023 because of growing traffic.
