PMC has begun preliminary work to widen the approach road to Hadapsar railway station, and the district administration has notified 30 more hectares for the proposed Hadapsar-Yavat elevated corridor.

Hadapsar in east Pune is becoming a major centre for housing, business and jobs. To ease the problems created by the city's expansion, several road and connectivity works are moving ahead in the area. They include preparations to widen the road near Hadapsar railway station and land acquisition for the proposed Hadapsar-Yavat elevated corridor.

The aim of these works is to reduce the hardship of daily commuters. Traffic jams, narrow approach roads, limited access to public transport and growing pressure on existing roads are the problems people are dealing with.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started preliminary work to widen the approach road to Hadapsar railway station. About Rs 1.45 crore has been set aside for it. The money will be spent on removing underground utility lines, electricity feeder boxes and poles that lie in the path of the proposed widening. Initial marking of the stretches to be widened has also begun.

The station serves long-distance trains and is being developed as another terminus. Narrow roads, little parking and a lack of designated space for buses and autorickshaws have made it difficult for passengers and motorists to reach it. The wider road is expected to improve traffic flow and make it easier for passengers to move around the station. People travelling to the station from Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Manjri and nearby areas could benefit.

The other major development concerns the Hadapsar-Yavat elevated corridor. The Pune district administration has issued a notification for the acquisition of 30 more hectares of land in Haveli and Daund talukas. The proposed corridor, about 31.5 km long, plans improvements to the existing road network, an elevated road section and provision for a metro at a later stage.

The Hadapsar-Yavat route links residential areas, industrial units and business centres. Once the project is complete, areas such as Manjri, Loni Kalbhor and Uruli Kanchan could benefit from better connectivity. The notification is one more step in the preparatory process. However, the project still depends on the remaining acquisition and construction procedures being completed.

Hadapsar has Magarpatta City, the Hadapsar Industrial Estate, business establishments, educational institutions and health facilities. Its links to Solapur Road and Magarpatta make it an important part of Pune's eastern growth corridor. Residential construction is also under way in Upper Kharadi and Wagholi, and housing and employment corridors in east Pune appear to be spreading.

Along with roads, water supply, drainage, waste management, street lights and other essential services must also be kept in good order. As population and business grow, developing transport and civic amenities together will matter for current and future residents. The two works are at different stages. The station road preparation is meant to remove existing problems, while the elevated corridor is part of a long-term plan. As the work progresses, reaching offices, schools, colleges and hospitals could become easier.
