Residents of Sade Satraanali in Hadapsar say the area gets about 3 lakh litres daily against a need of 50 to 60 lakh litres, and have warned of a sit-in at the PMC.
Residents of Sade Satraanali in Pune's Hadapsar area have warned the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of a dharna as the water shortage worsens. They say that if the supply is not increased soon, they will sit in protest at the main gate of the PMC.
The area receives about 3 lakh litres of water a day, while its population of roughly 50,000 needs 50 to 60 lakh litres.
The issue has been raised by the Sade Satraanali Citizens Action Committee, which says the shortage is growing more serious every day. The PMC supply is so low that families have to buy drinking water from private tankers to meet daily needs.
Residents say the full stock never reaches the area's water tanks, making even basic household chores difficult. They also say they have been paying property tax and water tax regularly since the area came within PMC limits, yet still struggle for water. The committee asked why the corporation, which collects taxes on time, does not provide the same basic facilities here.
The committee has two main demands. First, at least 20 to 25 lakh litres of water should be supplied to the area immediately. Second, until a permanent solution is found, the PMC should send drinking water tankers. Residents also want their area to receive equal and adequate water, like the rest of the city.
Citizens say they have met officials several times but have received only promises. They want the PMC to increase the supply and put a firm, lasting arrangement in place.
The committee has said that if the PMC does not take permanent steps and increase the water supply, residents will stage a dharna at the corporation's main gate.
