Police have asked people not to click suspicious links claiming a Rs 8,000 Diwali gift from the Prime Minister, which they say are meant to steal personal and bank details.
Pimpri Chinchwad, November 5, 2026: The alleged announcement of a Rs 8,000 Diwali gift for every Indian from Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the latest bait being used by cyber fraudsters to cheat people. Pimpri Chinchwad Police have warned people not to click suspicious links circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
The fake messages claim that the Prime Minister has approved cash assistance, and carry links through which the money can supposedly be claimed. According to police, these links can hand people's personal and bank details to fraudsters, leading to financial loss.
DCP (Crime) Rohidas Pawar appealed to people not to fall for such messages, not to click on links from unknown sources and not to pay any fee for this supposed benefit. He advised that the truth about government schemes be checked only on official websites.
Anyone who receives such messages or sees suspicious links should report them on the cyber crime helpline 1930 or file a complaint on the national cyber crime reporting portal.
