A woman died after being stabbed in Risod town on Sunday morning. The incident is said to have taken place between about 6 am and 6.30 am. The deceased has been identified as Kalpana Yogesh Dhavale, 35. The killing has caused a stir across the town.
According to preliminary information, her husband Yogesh attacked her with a sharp knife following a quarrel at home and suspicion about her character. Critically injured, Kalpana was taken to the rural hospital, where she died during treatment.
The accused husband is said to have fled the spot after the attack. Police have taken him into custody. Police stepped up the investigation under Risod police station in-charge Rameshwar Chavan, after which the accused was detained. Kalpana's brother, Datta Lakshan Kankal, has lodged a formal complaint with police in the case.
Kalpana Dhavale was highly educated. She leaves behind two children, a son and a daughter. Her parental home is in Datada Budruk, where her parents are farmers. The Dhavale family had moved only a few months ago to a rented house in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area on Hingoli Road in Risod. A quarrel broke out between the couple on Sunday morning, and Yogesh is alleged to have stabbed his wife during it, suspecting her character. The incident has caused unrest in Risod town and the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area.
The accused's brothers-in-law (married to sisters), Nandu Sudama Tahakik (Masla) and Deepak Magar (Makodi), had tried several times earlier to make him see reason. The exact nature of the domestic quarrel and the circumstances behind the incident are yet to emerge from the investigation.
Two young children have lost their mother. Kalpana's family is grieving. Further investigation and legal action are now crucial, and the exact cause of the incident will become clear only from the police investigation.
