The Vidarbha OBC Coordination Council has said the varied demands of the OBC community must not remain limited to discussion and need to be carried through to government decisions, budget provisions and implementation within a fixed timeframe. The council held a press conference at its hall in Ravi Bhavan, Nagpur, in the presence of representatives of the OBC Sankalp Sabha. Discussion at the meeting centred on setting a firm course of action at the political and administrative levels.
The press conference put three main themes at the centre of efforts to advance OBC issues: enumeration, implementation and accountability. The council said the community's demands should not stay confined to meetings and discussions, but should be implemented through government decisions and schemes.
Emphasis was also laid on the budget provisions, administrative responsibilities and fixed timelines needed for effective implementation of the demands.
The council's aim was to take the resolutions and the forthcoming action plan, which emerged from discussions between public representatives and community representatives, to the public through the media.
Council representatives said that to advance the community's demands effectively, political will had to be matched by clearly assigned responsibility at the administrative level. They also said decisions taken at the government level must be implemented within a set time.
Dr Amol Ranjitbabu Deshmukh, Adv. Ashok Yawale and Suresh Varshe were among the representatives of the Vidarbha OBC Coordination Council present on the occasion.
The council demanded that firm decisions be taken on OBC community issues, that the necessary funds be made available, and that schemes be implemented within fixed deadlines.
Through the press conference, the council made clear that, to turn the community's demands into real results, the decision-making process, financial provisions and accountability for implementation must move forward together.
