The demand to give employment to students who have completed apprenticeship training at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) since 2021 has intensified again. A memorandum was submitted to former state minister and Member of the Legislative Council Bachchu Kadu to draw the attention of the government and the WCL administration to the issue.
The initiative was taken under the guidance of Shiv Sena Lok Sabha organiser Mukesh Jivtode and led by Yuva Sena district organiser Sumit Hastak. According to the organisers, the employment of apprentices will be raised prominently at the agitation to be held on October 18, 2026.
The question of students still waiting for jobs after completing apprenticeship training at WCL has remained unresolved for a long time. Over this demand, the students have already held protests at Samvidhan Chowk in Nagpur and in front of the office of the WCL chairman and managing director (CMD). The students say no concrete decision has so far been taken on their demands.
The memorandum demands that students who have completed training get real work experience and a chance to build their skills in their own trades. It also seeks an impartial inquiry into complaints that trainees are made to do work outside their trades. The students have to struggle for employment even after training, which has made the question of their future serious.
People present said Kadu responded positively to the memorandum. It was stated that he said the question of employment for apprentice students would be raised prominently at the October 18 agitation against the WCL administration and would be kept up continuously.
Meanwhile, all the students concerned have been urged to join the October 18 agitation in large numbers. The main demand is that students be given employment according to their skills and training, and that the government and the WCL administration take a firm stand on their future.
Apprentice students including Karan Tidke, Anokha Gedam, Akshay Bodane and Kunal Korange were present on the occasion.
