Two-wheeler registrations in Pune are rising rapidly. Two series of the newly introduced MH-61 number sequence have run out within a month, and a third, MH-61 D, has already gone past 4,500 numbers. The figures show how sharply the pace of two-wheeler buying in the city has picked up.
The Pune RTO started the new MH-61 B series for two-wheelers on September 1. The start had been delayed after the MH-12 ZZ series ran out at the end of August, and for about eight days the registration of two-wheelers came to a standstill. During this period people bought new vehicles, but many had to wait for registration numbers.
Against this backdrop, a large number of the held-up vehicles were registered as soon as the MH-61 B series began on September 1. As a result, the series was exhausted in just nine days, on September 9. The MH-61 C series was then started on September 10 and was completed on September 23.
The third series, MH-61 D, is currently running, with more than 4,500 numbers issued so far. Under RTO rules, about 9,999 vehicles, regular and VIP numbers combined, are registered in one series.
The MH-61 series has also found good favour with people. About 25,000 two-wheelers have been registered in the month since the new MH-61 numbers began. The number of vehicles in the city is growing, and there is also a positive response to the new MH-61 series.
The month's registrations break down as follows. The MH-61 B series ran from September 1 to 9, a span of nine days. The MH-61 C series ran from September 10 to 23, a span of 14 days. In the MH-61 D series, more than 4,500 numbers have been issued since September 26. A series holds about 9,999 numbers, regular and VIP combined, and about 25,000 two-wheelers have been registered in the month since MH-61 began.
