Rain eases across Maharashtra as heat and humidity rise; Nagpur max seen at 31 degrees
With the monsoon gone, rain has weakened in most of Maharashtra and the weather is expected to stay mostly dry for the next few days.
The weather is changing fast after the monsoon's withdrawal from Maharashtra. Rain has weakened in most parts of the state and daytime temperatures are rising gradually.
On October 6, there remains a possibility of localised clouds, thunder and lightning, and light rain in some areas. According to the weather department, the weather in most parts of the state will remain mainly dry for the next few days.
Nagpur is likely to be hot and humid today. The temperature in the city was recorded at about 24 degrees on October 6. The maximum for the day is expected to be 31 degrees and the minimum around 24 degrees. The sun will rise at 5:49 am and set at 5:38 pm. Humidity in the air is 90 per cent and atmospheric pressure was recorded at around 1011.
The city's air is also a cause for concern. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 102 today, which falls in the poor category. PM2.5 stood at 46 and PM10 at 92 in the city. Sensitive people have been advised not to stay for long in polluted air.
In Mumbai and surrounding areas, the sky will be clear to partly cloudy. Rain is likely to be limited. The rise in daytime temperature may make the heat and humidity uncomfortable. In coastal areas, high humidity may make it feel hotter than the actual temperature.
In Pune too, the change after the monsoon's departure is clearly visible. Mornings and nights may stay relatively pleasant, but strong sunshine will raise the heat in the afternoon. Partial cloud may appear in the city and a few places around it, but widespread rain is unlikely.
Some districts of Vidarbha may see localised thunder, lightning and electrical activity today. Temperatures are likely to remain relatively high in Nagpur and surrounding areas. The weather department has advised people not to stand in open fields or under trees during thunder and lightning.
In most parts of Marathwada, the weather will remain mainly dry today and daytime temperatures may continue to rise. Rain is likely to stay weak in Central Maharashtra as well, though clouds may form in some places because of local conditions.
The change also affects farmers. The monsoon's withdrawal could affect rain-dependent farm work. Where harvesting or other field work is under way, the dry weather over the next few days may bring relief. Even so, given local thunderstorms and sudden rain, farmers should keep an eye on weather updates.
On the whole, heat, humidity and rising temperatures will be felt more than rain in Maharashtra today. Mumbai and Pune are likely to stay mainly dry, while some parts of Vidarbha may see thunder and lightning. In the coming days, rain is likely to weaken further in most parts of the state.
