Two labourers were robbed at knifepoint near Mahalaxmi petrol pump on the highway towards Hyderabad in Pardi police station limits, Nagpur. Five unidentified men allegedly snatched three mobile phones and Rs 500 in cash from them. The stolen goods have been valued at Rs 35,500 in total.
The incident took place around 3 am on October 6, but a complaint was lodged with the police only five days later, on October 11.
According to the information available, Nandu Namdeo Dongre (32), a resident of Umred tehsil, works as a labourer with a private company. He was travelling towards Hyderabad with a load in truck number CG-08-AG-1359, along with driver Johnny Ankush Waghade (40) and labourer Sagar Phokan Mundle (20).
The truck reached the petrol pump around 3 am on Tuesday, October 6. The three men stopped the truck and had tea. Dongre and Mundle then walked off to relieve themselves. Five unidentified youths allegedly arrived at that moment and demanded money from the two labourers at knifepoint.
It is alleged that when the labourers resisted, the assailants beat them up. They then snatched three mobile phones, of Vivo, Redmi and Oppo, and Rs 500 in cash. The five accused fled the spot after the robbery.
Dongre went to Pardi police station on October 11 and filed a complaint. Based on it, the police have registered a case against five unidentified accused. The police are now investigating further to identify and arrest them.
The early-morning incident on the highway has raised questions about the safety of drivers and labourers who travel at night.
