Mark Chapman has a hamstring injury and Rachin Ravindra is recovering from a shoulder injury, ruling both out of the five-match series starting on November 4.

Hosts New Zealand have suffered a major blow ahead of the five-match ODI series against India. The series starts on November 4, but Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will not be able to play. Chapman has a hamstring injury, while Rachin is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Changes have been made to the squad following their absence. Tim Seifert will stay in the squad for the entire ODI series. Henry Nicholls will play only the first match, meaning he gets a place in the opening ODI. Dean Foxcroft will be in the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs.

Matt Fisher will also stay with the team as an additional bowling option. Whether Matt Henry can play depends on his fitness. Nicholls scored 119 for Canterbury against Wellington Firebirds in the second match, and the innings secured his place in the side. It was his 13th century in List A cricket. Foxcroft will join the New Zealand squad after completing the red-ball series against India A.

A recent MRI scan showed that Chapman needs two more weeks of rehabilitation to be fully fit. Rachin's right shoulder will also take longer to heal so that he can field at full capacity. New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said the absence of both players is disappointing.

Walter said, "Everyone knows how important Mark and Rachin are to this team, so it is sad that they have to miss this series." He added, "I spoke to Mark last week, and even though he is disappointed, he is working hard to return to the field."

New Zealand's updated squad for the first to third ODIs is: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young and Blair Tickner.

The squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs is: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Christian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitch Hay (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Blair Tickner and Will Young.
