Only a few days remain for Shardiya Navratri. This year the festival will be observed between October 11 and 19. The festive days bring joy and enthusiasm everywhere. During Navratri the nine forms of the goddess are worshipped, and the festival is celebrated across the state to seek the blessings of her different Shakti forms.

Along with the worship of the nine forms of Goddess Durga, garba and dandiya events are also held in many places. Young women dress up and head out to play garba in make-up, matching jewellery and a lehenga. But the constant sweat while playing garba makes the make-up start coming off within a few hours.

If sweat washes the make-up away, it has to be reapplied. Reapplying again and again, or using the wrong products, can darken the face. This spoils the make-up and also harms the skin. Make-up also darkens and the face loses its glow if the skin care is wrong or the product does not suit the skin. Here are some tips to follow while applying make-up so that it lasts longer.

To make the make-up last and keep the face fresh, follow the right skin routine. Before applying make-up, wash the face thoroughly with water and a mild face wash. Then apply a light moisturiser suited to your skin type. If the skin is very dry, use a cream-based moisturiser; if it is oily, use a gel-based one. Using good-quality skin care and make-up products will not harm the skin.

After skin care, apply a good-quality primer. A primer smooths the skin and helps the make-up stay firmly on it. Then apply foundation or CC cream. Do not apply a very thick layer of make-up. After applying foundation, do not put on other products right away; let the make-up set properly. This keeps cracks from showing on the face and stops the make-up from looking cakey. To keep eye make-up from smudging, use waterproof eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadow.

To set the foundation and absorb excess oil, apply a translucent setting powder or compact. This way the make-up will not come off and will not be spoiled by streams of sweat. Once the make-up is done, apply a good-quality make-up setting spray or fixer to lock it in. Then set the look with a lipstick of your choice. If make-up is done following these steps, it will hold up well even in sun or sweat.
