Shanti Nagar police have booked a 60-year-old man and his nephew on a Nagpur woman's complaint that they took her Toyota Fortuner over an old business dispute and passed it on to another person.

A case of cheating has come to light in Nagpur, where a woman has alleged that her Toyota Fortuner, valued at about Rs 5 lakh, was taken from her on the pretext of an old business dispute. Shanti Nagar police have registered a case against Riyaz Khan, 60, and his nephew, who is about 40.

According to the police, the allegation is that the two took possession of the vehicle by paying only Rs 50,000 and later handed it over to someone else without the owner's consent.

According to the complaint, the woman's husband and Riyaz Khan had made a business deal over scrap goods about four years ago. The deal is said to have fallen through after a dispute. It is alleged that Khan then began demanding that the woman's husband reimburse the expenses incurred in the failed deal.

The complaint states that during this dispute the woman, believing the matter would be settled, handed over to Riyaz Khan the Toyota Fortuner registered in her name. But it is alleged that, against the vehicle's value of about Rs 5 lakh, the accused gave her only Rs 50,000.

The complaint also alleges that, without paying the remaining amount and without seeking the woman's permission, Riyaz Khan and his nephew gave the Fortuner to Parmanand Moryani, a resident of Panchpavali.

The matter became more serious when it was alleged that the same vehicle has since been linked to a criminal case registered at Khaparkheda police station. The woman also suffered a financial loss, because, according to the allegation, instalments on the vehicle remained unpaid and the balance amount was not paid.

On the woman's complaint, Shanti Nagar police have registered a case against Riyaz Khan and his nephew under the relevant sections dealing with cheating. Police are now investigating the alleged transfer of the vehicle, the money transactions between the two sides and the alleged use of the vehicle in the Khaparkheda case.
