A controversy has erupted at a well-known college in Nagpur's Wathoda area, where a teacher is accused of sending female students obscene and religiously objectionable messages. The allegations have not been proved.

It is said that a student's family saw the messages on her mobile phone. Family members then went to the college and confronted the teacher directly.

The student's father said he went to the college after seeing the alleged messages on his daughter's phone. According to him, an argument broke out there and it escalated into a scuffle. He also said he has given the college administration a written complaint.

According to the father, the college administration contacted him after the incident and told him that an inquiry was under way inside the college, so he should not make the matter public until then. He said he wants a fair inquiry and that appropriate action should be taken if the allegations are found to be true.

He has also warned that if satisfactory action is not taken, he will hold a press conference and place the full details of the matter before the public.

Claims have also surfaced that some other students felt uncomfortable because of the teacher's alleged messages, but these have not been confirmed. It is also unclear whether any other student has filed a formal complaint.

The actual content of the messages, their context, statements from the parties concerned and digital evidence will be important in establishing the facts. What the messages said and how much truth there is in the allegations have not been independently verified.

It is also not clear at present whether a formal complaint has been registered with the police. No information has emerged of any police complaint, either over the alleged messages or over the scuffle.

An official response from the college administration and the teacher's side were not available so far. The picture is expected to become clearer once both respond.
