Man stabbed in Nagpur's Wathoda while trying to save friend in road dispute; accused absconding

A minor dispute over a request to move away from a road in Nagpur's Wathoda police station area on Monday afternoon escalated into a stabbing. Nitin Bais, 36, was seriously injured in the incident. The accused allegedly stabbed Bais twice, in the chest and abdomen, when he stepped in to save his friend.

Bais was rushed to the trauma centre of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he has been admitted and is undergoing treatment. The accused has been identified as Kaleem Khan Pathan. He is said to have fled the spot after the attack and is still absconding. Wathoda police have begun a search for him.

According to the information available, the incident took place at around 2.30 pm on Kharbi Road, between Payal Wine Shop and Smit Bar. Bais was standing near a roadside paan shop with his friends Paras Chaudhary, Pratik Bund and Sonu Kolte. Pathan arrived there in a car and allegedly asked them to move away.

An argument broke out between Chaudhary and Pathan. As the dispute escalated, the accused allegedly took a knife out of his vehicle and ran towards Chaudhary.

Bais then stepped in to protect his friend. Pathan allegedly threatened him and then attacked him with the knife. The two blows to the chest and abdomen left Bais in a serious condition.

People nearby took Bais to the trauma centre at GMCH for emergency treatment. On the basis of the victim's complaint and statement, Wathoda police have registered a case under various sections, including attempt to murder.

Police are investigating further and searching for the absconding accused. According to information from the case, more than 40 criminal cases are registered against Pathan in Nagpur city. Police are verifying these details.

The attack has caused concern among residents of the area. The investigating officers are working to establish the full sequence of events and to arrest the accused.
