A minor quarrel in Nagpur's Wathoda police station area ended in a stabbing. In a dispute on Kharbi Road over a request to move away from the road, 36-year-old Nitin Bais was allegedly attacked with a knife. Bais was stabbed twice, in the chest and abdomen, and is critically injured. He has been admitted to the trauma centre of the Medical hospital.
The accused has been named as Kaleem Khan Pathan. He has been absconding since the incident and Wathoda police are searching for him.
According to the information available, the incident took place around 2.30 pm on Monday. Bais was standing near a roadside paan shop between Payal Wine Shop and Smit Bar on Kharbi Road with his friends Paras Chaudhari, Pratik Band and Sonu Kolte. Pathan then arrived in a car and told them to move away from the spot. An argument started between Chaudhari and the accused.
It is alleged that as the argument escalated, Pathan took a knife from his vehicle and ran towards Chaudhari. Bais stepped in to protect his friend. The accused allegedly threatened him too and attacked him with the knife. Two stab wounds, to the chest and abdomen, left Bais seriously injured.
After the attack, people nearby took the injured Bais to the trauma centre of the Medical hospital for treatment. On the basis of his complaint and statement, Wathoda police have registered a case under relevant sections, including attempt to murder, and the search for the accused continues.
Pathan is said to have more than 40 criminal cases already registered against him in Nagpur city. He is currently beyond the reach of the police. The incident has left the area in a mood of worry and anger. Police are investigating the case.
