Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a car carrying actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday evening, October 18. The actor was not hurt. His driver was wounded, and police have formed 12 teams to trace the attackers.
The shooting happened near Pushpa Park. Early reports spoke of panic in the neighbourhood and claimed that Shroff himself had been injured by flying glass from a shattered window. Mumbai Police later cleared this up. Mohit Garg, DCP of Zone 1 in the Western Region, confirmed that the actor was not hit and had suffered no bullet injury. The team of Shroff's father, the veteran actor Jackie Shroff, also said that Tiger was fine.
The incident took place at around 7 pm, with some accounts putting it between 7 and 7.30 pm. Shroff was reportedly leaving a football ground after a match. A large crowd had gathered to see him, and the shots are said to have come from within it. Three men on a two-wheeler fired at the vehicle. The number of rounds is reported differently: three in some accounts, three to four in others, and four to five in a third. The car is reported to have been a BMW. A video of the incident has since surfaced.
Shroff's driver, named as Firdaus, was hurt in the left hand and admitted to Nanavati Hospital. It is not clear whether he was hit by a bullet or hurt in the rush of the crowd, and the seriousness of his injury has not been established. One more person was also injured, and some reports identify this person as an autorickshaw driver. Both were taken to hospital.
Police cordoned off the area and began a search. The case comes under Juhu police station. Investigators are going through CCTV footage and other technical evidence to identify the three men and to establish the motive. No arrest had been reported at the time of writing.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti as soon as he learnt of the incident, and directed that the investigation be stepped up and strict action taken against the guilty. State Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar also spoke to the actor's family.
A social media post in the name of gangsters Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, who are said to be based abroad, claims the attack for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. It alleges that Shroff had been warned earlier and threatens people in the Mumbai film industry, including everyone who works with actor Salman Khan. Its authenticity, and any role of the gang, have not been officially confirmed, and the claims should not be treated as established while the inquiry goes on.
The firing drew sharp political reaction. Congress leader Sachin Sawant wrote on X: "The news of firing on actor Tiger Shroff's car is deeply shocking. What on earth is going on in Mumbai?"
He added: "The murder of Baba Siddique, firing at Salman Khan's house, threats to many actors and producers... law and order in Mumbai has been ruined. What has come about is not law and order but sheer disorder. The Chief Minister has failed completely!"
Sawant also said: "It had come to the point of saying 'Maharashtra has become Bihar', but now it is time to say that Bihar is better. We openly oppose a government that has pushed Mumbai into the fear of criminals!"
The attack follows other shootings aimed at film personalities. In April 2024, two men on a motorcycle fired five rounds outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartment home in Bandra, and the Bishnoi gang claimed that attack too. In January 2026, actor and film critic Kamaal R. Khan was detained and legal action taken against him over an alleged direct link to a firing case in Oshiwara, Andheri. In February 2026, shots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's home in Juhu, and the Bishnoi gang claimed that case as well. Police made arrests of suspected main suspects and shooters there. Firing has also been reported at the Gurugram home of YouTuber Elvish Yadav.
Shroff, 36, was born Jai Hemant Shroff in Mumbai on March 2, 1990. He studied at the American School of Bombay and enrolled at Amity University but did not finish college, his interest lying in martial arts and sport. He began taekwondo at four, reportedly earned a black belt in 2014, and made his Bollywood debut the same year with Heropanti. His film Lag Jaa Gale, directed by Raj Mehta and starring Janhvi Kapoor and Laksh, is due on May 14, 2027. An untitled action film directed by Remo D'Souza, with Abhishek Banerjee, Elvish Yadav, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Pashmina Roshan, has finished shooting, and a release date is expected soon.
