Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat has said it is not easy to resolve problems through agitations. He was speaking at the Sangh's Vijayadashami festival 2026 in Nagpur. In his address he spoke on the state of the world, the challenges facing India, the purpose of agitations and the unity of society.

According to Bhagwat, a storm has risen from the Western world that wants to destroy civilisation, goodwill, cultural values and human values. He said this was happening in several countries, such as France and Albania. He said many people think regime change will alter conditions, but that has not happened before and will not happen in future. Regime change does not change circumstances, Bhagwat said.

Bhagwat said demonic forces were working against India. According to him, if India grows strong, it will obstruct the designs of these forces, which is why India is also a target of this storm. He said they were impatient to break India. Bhagwat said they get support from some people, and some over-ambitious leaders also meet them. In view of this, India needs to be more vigilant, he said.

On agitations, Bhagwat said that agitations will happen in a democracy, but the question is what their purpose should be. According to him, the purpose of an agitation should be to resolve problems. He asked leaders to ensure that agitations do not create divisions in the country and society and that they remain within the limits of the Constitution. Bhagwat said society should not be caught in the grip of such agitations.

Bhagwat also said it is not necessary that agitation alone will resolve a problem. Many problems can also be solved through the active participation of society. According to him, society's activism and mutual dialogue should increase, and running society and the country is our responsibility too. He said that if the purpose of an agitation is something else, it becomes political, it breeds enmity, and anti-national forces can exploit agitations.

Referring to the natural disaster in Nepal, Bhagwat said the thinking on development needs to be reconsidered. He said such crises are recurring across the Himalayan region, so it is necessary to look at the process of development with the right perspective. He cautioned that in the name of development, conditions should not arise in which human existence itself has to pay the price.

Stressing the country's unity and strength, Bhagwat said the Hindu outlook places no restriction on any particular mode of worship, food, way of living or social-political thought. All Indians should maintain a sense of being one, he said. He said that beyond asking what the country gives us, it is important to think about what we can do for the country.
