The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken action against actor Ajay Devgn's bungalow in Juhu, Mumbai, demolishing part of unauthorised construction under way there. The bungalow had been in the news for the past few days.
Devgn has leased out the Juhu bungalow, where a large spa and salon is to open. He has given it to a company named Florian Hurel for five years. The value of the agreement is reported to be Rs 10.61 crore. However, neither the society's residents nor the BMC liked the bungalow being leased in this way.
The bungalow is in the Kapol Co-operative Housing Society. Residents of the society themselves complained to the BMC. They say this is a residential area, and that if a spa and salon operates here, hundreds of outsiders will come every day. They say there will be crowds of vehicles, parking problems, more noise and a question of security. The residents say they do not want this.
After the complaint, the BMC's K-West ward office looked into the matter. When officials visited, work was going on inside. Walls were being demolished, new partitions were being built and changes were being made to the windows. No permission had been taken from the BMC for this work.
On September 10, 2026, the BMC sent Devgn a notice under Section 354A. It said clearly that the work must stop immediately and that he should show again the documents and permissions he held. The work nevertheless continued after the notice was received. The BMC finally decided to act. Its team arrived and demolished part of the unauthorised construction.
Devgn has himself said nothing on the matter. Sources close to his team say all permissions have been obtained and that everything being done is legal. They have called the society's allegations wrong.
The BMC's position is different. It says the bungalow is meant for residential use, that separate permission is required for commercial use, and that this was not obtained.
Devgn is currently pleased with his film Drishyam 3, which is doing well at the box office. While the film is a hit, the bungalow has put him in the headlines. It remains to be seen what further action the BMC takes and how the dispute is resolved.
