Mahindra & Mahindra is bringing its popular compact SUV, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, to the market in a new form. The XUV 3XO CNG, the company's first CNG SUV, will be officially launched on October 15.
The vehicle has so far been available in petrol, diesel and electric versions. With a CNG powertrain added, it is said to be set to take on rivals such as the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza head-on.
Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise, and demand for environment-friendly vehicles is growing. Mahindra has taken the decision in view of this. The new CNG model is expected to offer customers a powerful drive at lower running cost, with good mileage. The SUV retains its 5-star safety rating and strong build quality, so there will be no compromise on safety.
According to available information, the SUV may get the 1.2-litre MPFI turbo petrol engine with a CNG option, as this engine is considered easy to pair with CNG technology. Mahindra may also use a twin-cylinder setup, on the lines of Tata, so that boot space is not a problem and there is ample room for luggage.
On features, the XUV 3XO CNG is likely to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless connectivity and the segment's largest panoramic sunroof. For safety, it will get six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels and electronic stability control as standard.
Sales of CNG cars are rising fast, and customers no longer have a diesel option among smaller vehicles. Mahindra's new CNG SUV could prove a game changer in the market. The price and other official details will be revealed on October 15.
