Nagpur: Questions have been raised over the safety of women doctors at Mayo Hospital on Central Avenue after the lock of a trainee woman doctor's room in the girls' hostel was broken and jewellery was stolen. CCTV footage has shown that a woman carried out the theft. Tehsil police have registered a case of theft.

Dr Isha lives in the New Residency Hostel of Mayo Hospital. On the morning of October 12, she locked her room and went to the room of her friend, Dr Apurva. After meeting Dr Apurva, she returned to her room and found the door open. The belongings in the room were also scattered.

When Dr Isha checked the hostel's CCTV footage, an unidentified woman was seen breaking the lock of her room and entering. The woman entered the room easily. She stole a gold ring from Dr Isha's room and fled.

Based on Isha's complaint, Tehsil police have registered a case of theft and begun an investigation. The incident has caused fear among the women doctors, who have questioned the security arrangements. They say it is extremely serious that an outside woman could enter the girls' hostel despite the presence of security personnel.

Police are searching for the woman accused on the basis of the CCTV footage.
