Preparations for the winter session have begun in Nagpur. The executive engineer of the Maharashtra government's Public Works Department (PWD) has started a large tender process for infrastructure development and maintenance in the city.
Under an e-tender notice, registered contractors have been invited to submit online bids for more than 40 separate works. Sources said nearly all the works in the tender are linked to preparations for the winter session, and activity has picked up accordingly.
The process has been started early to improve government buildings and basic facilities for the ministers, officials and employees who will be in the city during the session.
A uniform cost of Rs 8.44 lakh and a time limit of one month have been fixed for every work. This indicates that the works have been kept with small and medium contractors in mind.
The tenders mainly cover repairs, painting, plumbing and flooring work at government buildings, hospitals, roads and offices across the city.
At the Vidhan Bhavan, work is to be done on the gate toilet, painting, polishing, floor repairs and civil work in various offices on the ground floor. Repair of a water tank is also on the list.
In the Civil Lines area, plumbing, flooring, and repairs to windows and doors will be carried out at the Secretariat building, Ravi Bhavan, the Divisional Commissioner's office and police quarters. Renovation of the guest house of the Directorate of Agriculture is also included.
In the education and hospital category, the works include civil work in the old and new hostels of Mayo Hospital, street lighting at the hospital, and purchase of drop sheets. Floors of the police quarters near the Nagpur Residential Office (Old Morris College) will be repaired. Plumbing, flooring, painting and joinery work at the MLA Hostel is also part of the tender.
Other works include balcony structural and miscellaneous work for Wing No. 2, cleaning of all roads and water tanks in Ravi Nagar Colony, and repairs to New House Nos. 1 and 2 near the Vidhan Bhavan and to residential buildings.
