Hot and dry weather is expected to continue in Maharashtra on Sunday, October 11, following the withdrawal of the monsoon. Skies will remain clear over most parts of the state, and rising daytime temperatures could make conditions uncomfortable. The chances of widespread rain across the state are currently low.
Humidity may cause discomfort in Mumbai and surrounding areas, while strong afternoon sun could add to the difficulty in Pune and the cities of Vidarbha.
The maximum temperature in Mumbai and the suburbs is expected to be between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Because of the city's proximity to the sea, moisture is likely to persist in the air, so it may feel hotter than the temperature suggests. Those stepping out in the afternoon should take care. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding long exposure to the sun will help.
In Pune city, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum 22 degrees Celsius. The city has remained dry since the monsoon's return. The rest of western Maharashtra may also feel the heat during the day. Signs favourable for rain are weak for now.
In Nagpur, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum 22 degrees Celsius. The temperature recorded in the morning was 22 degrees. Sunrise will be at 5:52 am and sunset at 5:33 pm. The humidity level is reported at 93 per cent and atmospheric pressure at around 1014.
Nagpur's Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded at 126. The PM 2.5 level is 57 and the PM 10 level is 115. Sensitive people should therefore avoid prolonged exposure to pollution.
Weather in many parts of Vidarbha is expected to remain hot and dry. In recent days, temperatures between 35 and 39 degrees have been recorded in some cities of the region. However, the available data for Nagpur city puts the maximum temperature at 30 degrees. Some clouds may be seen in the afternoon or evening, but there are no signs of widespread rain.
After the monsoon's withdrawal, concern persists over rain-dependent farming and the availability of water. In areas where rainfall has been low, farmers should pay particular attention to the needs of their crops and irrigation.
The public should avoid going out needlessly in the afternoon, drink plenty of water and wear light clothing. People should keep checking the official updates of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for weather warnings and changes.
