The CJP's agitation in Delhi visibly affected markets on Saturday. Major markets such as Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and Lajpat Rai Market had to stay closed that day. The agitation is directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

With the festival season under way, a market shutdown is considered a major blow for traders. It is being said that Delhi's traders have suffered a loss of about Rs 2,000 crore because of the agitation.

Heavy police deployment and the agitation also affected the capital's other markets. Three to four lakh people who come from outside Delhi every day to shop could not make it today. Fear over security and traffic jams also led Delhi residents to avoid shopping today.

Most major metro stations were closed, which disrupted movement. Petrol pumps also wore a deserted look. Bookings at hotels, restaurants, cinemas, beauty parlours and salons were cancelled.

Sanjeev Mehra, president of the Khan Market Traders' Association, said, citing the CJP's Delhi agitation, that he had taken the decision to close the market himself. He explained that when protesters are stopped, Khan Market is the first to be directly affected. This carries the risk of damage to shops and property, which is why the decision was taken.

Mehra said that in markets such as Khan Market, Connaught Place and South Extension, big expenses such as rent and salaries continue even when shops are shut. According to him, a one-day closure can cost each shop up to Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh. Perishable goods such as fruit and groceries add to the loss.

He appealed to political parties to rethink their approach. He also urged that protests be held peacefully and away from busy commercial areas.
