Mugdha Deshmukh, who family believed was in London, was found dead in a Gahunje flat; police are investigating all angles.
The decomposed body of a 34-year-old woman was found in a luxury flat in Gahunje, Pune, causing a stir across Maharashtra. She has been identified as Mugdha Deshmukh, a resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar who was pursuing an MBA in London. She had gone to London to study in July 2025. Her body was found in a very poor condition inside the flat, which had been shut for around five days, raising several serious questions.
According to the information available, Mugdha last spoke to her mother on October 23. She said then that she was going for an interview and was in a hurry. After that, her family lost contact with her completely.
Worried, the family asked her friends in London. They learnt that Mugdha had returned to India at the end of August. The news left everyone stunned.
The family then went through her bank account statement. It showed entries for some orders placed on Zomato, Swiggy and Blinkit, which made it clear she was in India. The family immediately approached the police and expressed a suspicion of abduction. On the basis of technical investigation, the police traced the flat, in a high-rise in Gahunje.
When police opened the door and entered, Mugdha's decomposed body was lying on the bed. According to a preliminary estimate, she died four to five days earlier. The body kept decomposing for all these days, yet the neighbours had no inkling.
According to police sources, when police entered the room, the fan and the air conditioner in the flat were running continuously. The AC had been on for the past four to five days, which is why the smell of the body did not spread outside.
Deep suspicion is being expressed over this. The question is whether Mugdha made such preparations before ending her own life, or whether there was a conspiracy or crime against her, after which the AC was kept on. Nothing is certain about this at present. Police are investigating the case thoroughly from every angle.
