A librarian's bag of Rs 3.30 lakh, withdrawn from an SBI branch, was taken from his bike's storage box in Brahmapuri, Chandrapur district; police are searching for two women and a car.

A major daylight theft has been reported from Brahmapuri town in Chandrapur district. Rs 3 lakh 30 thousand withdrawn from a State Bank of India branch went missing from a bike's storage box. According to the complaint, the money was taken by two unidentified women. The theft has caused alarm in the town and a climate of fear among residents.

The complainant, Chandrabhan Nathhuji Panse (57, resident of Tilak Nagar, Brahmapuri), is a librarian at the Lokmanya Tilak Library on Bazaar Chowk, Sarafa Line. He said that at about 10:30 am on October 31, 2026, he went with a colleague from the library on a bike to the State Bank of India branch in Brahmapuri. The purpose was to withdraw the library's money.

Rs 3 lakh 70 thousand was withdrawn from the bank. He kept Rs 40,000 of it in his trouser pocket. The remaining Rs 3 lakh 30 thousand he put in a cloth bag and had his colleague place it in the open storage box of the bike.

From there they went to Dalal flour mill on the Brahmapuri-Wadsa highway. He parked the bike outside the mill and went in at 11:05 am to collect a bag of ground flour. At 11:10 am, only a few minutes later, he came out with the bag. When he went to put the grain bag in the storage box, the bag of money was not there.

He then viewed footage from the CCTV camera of a nearby auto garage. It showed an unidentified young woman of about 25, wearing a salwar and a white dupatta. She was clearly seen taking the bag of money out of the bike's storage box. With the bag, she ran towards a white Swift Dzire car parked opposite and got in.

Behind her, another unidentified woman of about 30, wearing a saree, also got into the same car. The car then sped off towards Wadsa Road.

After the incident, the librarian went straight to Brahmapuri police station and reported the matter. On his oral report, Brahmapuri police have registered a case under Sections 3(5) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Sub-inspector Pritamkumar Bharat Yerme is conducting further investigation. A search is on for the two women and the Swift Dzire car on the basis of the CCTV footage. No arrests have been reported so far.
