Colleges charging exam fees in drought-hit talukas face action, says Chandrakant Patil

Exam fees are waived for students in the 265 talukas declared drought-hit, and colleges that collect them will face direct action, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said.

Drought conditions have been declared in 265 talukas across 34 districts of the state. Against this backdrop, the Directorate of Higher Education has issued a circular on waiving examination fees for students in those areas, so that they get some relief.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has issued clear directions that students should not be charged examination fees, given the drought in Marathwada, so that they get financial relief. He has given these directions to the university administration.

Patil said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made clear his position that examination fees should not be collected from students. He therefore stated plainly that action will be taken against colleges that recover examination fees from students.

Farmers and ordinary families in Marathwada are facing financial hardship because of the drought. In such times, the government's directions must be strictly implemented so that students are not burdened with the additional financial load of examination fees, Patil said.

The university administration has also been told to follow the government's directions and ensure that no examination fees are collected from students. The concerned officials of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University have been instructed to take note of colleges that collect fees in violation of the government's instructions and take action against them as per rules.

Minister Chandrakant Patil also said that giving students relief, keeping in mind their academic interests and financial condition, is the government's priority.

In short, examination fees are waived for students in the talukas where drought conditions have been declared. If any college is found charging such fees, it will face direct action, and the government is trying to give students relief in view of their financial condition. The aim of all these directions is that students should not bear the additional financial burden of examination fees.
