A Chandrapur parent has been cheated of Rs 8.98 lakh on the promise of an MBBS admission, and a case has been registered against two men at Ramnagar police station. Police have named Jogender Singh, a resident of Udaipur, Rajasthan, and Om Prakash Rathod, a resident of Beed, Maharashtra, as the accused.

It is alleged that the money was taken by luring the complainant with the promise of a direct admission at low cost through contacts. The contact was made online through Google.

The complainant, Mangesh Prabhakarrao Bhombe (50), of Plot No. 19, Upgallawar Layout, Tukum, Chandrapur, runs a medical agency in the city. He was looking for a good college for MBBS admission for his daughter and for the son of his friend Sharad Randive. Sharad Randive searched on Google and contacted a counsellor, Omprakash Rathod.

According to the complaint, Rathod said his acquaintance Jogender Singh was from Udaipur and could arrange direct admission to MBBS and BDS at low cost by "setting" things up. The two also said they had earlier arranged admissions for many people, and thus won the complainant's trust.

Trusting them, Bhombe and his friend left for Udaipur on September 7, 2025, and reached Pacific College, Udaipur, on September 8, 2025. At Rathod's behest, they met a college administrative officer named Sharma. The college administration asked them to fill in a form and had Rs 1 lakh transferred online to the college accountant's bank account for the admission process. When no seat came through at that college within a few days, they asked for the Rs 1 lakh back, which the college returned within 15 days.

Jogender Singh then said he had contacts at Prakash Institute of Medical Science and Research, a medical college in Sangli, and would get both of them confirmed MBBS admission there. He kept asking for money from time to time, citing Rs 20 lakh for the daughter, who is in the open category, plus overhead expenses.

From November 8, 2025, Bhombe sent money online to a UPI ID and various bank accounts provided by Jogender Singh. Some of the amount was also sent from the accounts of his friend Sharad Randive and his brother Amol Kohale. A total of Rs 8.98 lakh was taken through UPI linked to various bank accounts.

Despite paying repeatedly, he did not get admission. Realising he had been cheated, Bhombe came to Ramnagar police station and filed a complaint. On that complaint, Ramnagar police have registered a case against the accused Jogender Singh and Om Prakash Rathod under Section 66(D) of the IT Act along with Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ramnagar police are conducting further investigation.
