Chandrapur: Keeping in view the possible impact of El Nino, a review meeting of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation announced a cut in the city's water supply. The meeting was called to plan the available water stock properly. The commissioner announced a cut of at least 10 per cent from October 16, 2026.

The meeting was held in line with the provisions and directions of the Government Resolution issued by the Water Resources Department of the Maharashtra government. Officials present included the commissioner of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation, the executive engineer of the Chandrapur irrigation department, the deputy chief engineer and superintending engineer of Mahagenco, and the city engineer and executive engineer of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation.

The meeting took stock of the water stock available for Chandrapur city, the current water situation, future requirements and the possible water shortage. Directions were issued on the steps needed to use the available water economically and keep supply to citizens smooth in the coming days.

The commissioner appealed to all citizens of Chandrapur to use water carefully and sparingly. The appeal said that preventing needless waste of water is the responsibility of every citizen as well as the administration, and urged people to support the administration in conserving the water stock.

The commissioner directed the municipal administration to take immediate steps to reduce water leakage in the city. Orders were also given to fit taps on all water outlets as required. Special emphasis was laid on locating leakage points and repairing them at once, and on stopping needless waste of water.

To conserve the water stock, keeping in mind the possible impact of El Nino, the commissioner announced a cut of at least 10 per cent from October 16, 2026. The municipal administration was directed to submit a full report on the planning and implementation of the cut and its effect on the city's water supply.

To reduce the pressure on drinking water from industrial use, the commissioner advised Mahagenco to use recycled water. Mahagenco officials told the meeting that water recycling work is under way and recycled water is being used. Emphasis was laid on measures to reduce the pressure on drinking water by making maximum use of such water in industrial use.

The commissioner also directed the municipal administration to spread awareness widely among citizens about avoiding waste, saving water and using the available water economically. It was asked to carry the message through various awareness programmes, interaction with citizens, and schools, colleges and several social organisations.

Given the possible water shortage, special attention will be paid to protecting water sources, controlling leakage, economical use of water, reuse of industrial water and active participation of citizens to keep Chandrapur's water supply smooth. Citizens have been urged to use water carefully and support the municipal administration.
