A 21-year-old man died in an accident on the night of October 7, 2026, within the limits of Aurad police station in Latur district. He had a helmet, but instead of wearing it he had hung it on the handlebar of his motorcycle. He suffered a deep head injury in the crash and died.

The deceased has been identified as Prafull Sunil Kale, 21, a resident of Malegaon Kalyani in Nilanga taluka. He was riding motorcycle MH 24 CH 4042 from Aurad towards Nilanga.

At around 10.30 pm, he had reached near Moghe Mhasobawadi Pati. At that moment, the rider of motorcycle MH 12 GS 1930, who was ahead of him, braked suddenly. Kale's motorcycle rammed into the vehicle in front.

The impact was so strong that Kale was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on the cement road. He suffered a deep head injury. He was being taken to the government hospital in Nilanga for treatment but died on the way.

The most significant aspect of the accident is that Kale had a helmet with him but was not wearing it. The helmet was hanging on the handlebar and he was riding in that condition. With no helmet on his head at the time of the crash, he sustained a deep head injury.

Hanging a helmet on the vehicle, holding it in the hand or merely carrying it does not protect the head. The helmet must be properly worn at the moment of an accident. Having a helmet is not enough; wearing it on the head is what matters.

The incident is a fresh reminder that a helmet is not something to be merely carried. It must be worn correctly on every journey. A few seconds of carelessness can prove fatal.
