Jaldindi rally in Chandrapur launches Jal Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, urges people to save water
The Water Resources Department's campaign runs from October 2 to 17, 2026, with a jaldindi procession carrying the message of saving water.
The Jal Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was launched in Chandrapur with a jaldindi procession. The campaign is the Water Resources Department's and will run between October 2 and 17, 2026. The jaldindi carried the message of saving water and water conservation to people.
The dindi began at the Dina Rest House, passed through Jatpura Gate and Gandhi Chowk, and returned to the rest house. The initiative aims to raise awareness about using water sparingly. Conveying the importance of water conservation and making people aware of how to stop wastage of water were described as its main objectives.
Rainfall is feared to turn uncertain this year because of El Nino. Dams currently hold about 70 per cent of their water storage. Given the possible water shortage in the coming days, it is necessary to manage the available water carefully and use it sparingly. The jaldindi gave the message that every drop is precious and every drop of available water should be used properly.
Several activities will be undertaken during the campaign. These include recovery of water charges and redressal of complaints, interaction with farmers and water user associations, and shramdan (voluntary labour) for water awareness and cleaning of canals. Canals and the distribution system will also be inspected. Officials will visit project-affected and resettlement villages to hear people's problems, and land acquisition work will be speeded up.
The main objectives of the campaign are to conserve water sources, use the available water wisely and efficiently, and increase the active participation of farmers and citizens in water management.
Executive Engineer Jalesh Singh of the Chandrapur Irrigation Department, and Deputy Executive Engineers Narasapure, Pullawar and Kamble took part in the jaldindi. Sub-divisional Engineers Jamgade and Yadav of the Chandrapur Irrigation Project Division were also present, along with a large number of officials and employees.
On the occasion, a pledge was taken to carry the message to the public through the campaign: save water, stop wastage of water and use every drop of available water efficiently.
