Chandrapur's Dikshabhoomi is set for a complete makeover. MLA Kishor Jorgewar told a press conference that ground-breaking for the development work at the historic site will take place soon. Funds of Rs 56.9 crore have been approved for the project, which will transform the Dikshabhoomi area.

Jorgewar showed a glimpse of the planned development at the press conference and said ground-breaking for the Dikshabhoomi project would happen within days. He had sought funds for the development of Dikshabhoomi during the 2020 budget session, and that effort has now paid off with the approval of Rs 56.9 crore.

The funds will be used to build a 51-foot statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Dikshabhoomi site. A community hall, a Vipassana centre, a theme park and a new vihar will also be developed in the area, along with three new entrance gates. Jorgewar laid out the full details of what will come up at Dikshabhoomi at the press conference.

The funds are currently with the Social Welfare department and will be released to the Public Works Department in phases. Jorgewar said he was confident that, thanks to this large allocation of funds secured through his efforts, the area would in future become famous among tourists from around the world.

Jorgewar said he would continue to work for the development of the Chandrapur assembly constituency. He said several other projects, including the Tadoba safari project, development of the Mahakali temple area and a heritage walk, would be taken up in the future.

The MLA noted that attempts were currently being made to create obstacles in the Dikshabhoomi development work. He appealed to all members of the community to ignore these obstacles and cooperate in developing the site, hallowed by Babasaheb's presence.

Jorgewar said that if members of the community found any shortcomings in the development work, they should submit them in writing, and the administration would rectify them. He appealed to the community to cooperate in the development of the sacred site. Against the backdrop of confusion currently surrounding Dikshabhoomi, written suggestions will be sought from the Ghotekar and Khobragade families on what more should be done in the area, after hearing their views.
