A 21-year-old man died of electrocution this morning at the Ketan Hyundai workshop in Tadali, Chandrapur. His colleague was injured in the incident. Grief has spread across the area.

The deceased has been identified as Sarang alias Mohan Koychade, a resident of Morwa. The injured colleague is Shubham Umate, 29, who is being treated at a private hospital.

According to information received, Koychade and Umate both work in denting and painting at the workshop. They reached work as usual this morning. They noticed a smell of burning or something unusual and climbed onto a tin shed to look.

There was a tree near the workshop, and current was spreading through it from a live electric wire. Koychade's hand touched the tree inadvertently and he received a severe shock.

Umate, who was with him, tried to save Koychade from the current and received a heavy shock himself. Both were pulled clear and were being rushed to hospital, but Koychade died on the way.

Koychade was the only son of his parents. His family has been plunged into grief at the loss of its support.

After his death, local residents demanded financial help from the Ketan Hyundai company. Villagers, relatives and workers gathered at the hospital premises. As tension rose, Ramnagar police and a riot control squad reached the spot. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kumar Sushant and Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekurke brought the situation under control.

The villagers had warned that if no financial help was given, they would place the body at the company's gate. After about two and a half hours, it was agreed that Koychade's family would be given Rs 14 lakh and his father would be given a job. The residents then took custody of the body.
