boAt, the well-known Indian audio and wearables company, is starting business in Sri Lanka and Bhutan. The company made the official announcement on October 16. Having reached the top position in the domestic market, the move is seen as a significant step in its effort to create new growth opportunities abroad.
The expansion comes as the company's international business is gaining pace. In financial year 2026, boAt's international revenue more than doubled. Entering Sri Lanka and Bhutan will further strengthen its growing presence in South-East Asia and the GCC region.
Both countries have a good number of young customers, growing use of digital technology and an appeal for Indian brands among people. For these reasons, boAt's tech products are expected to get a strong response there.
The company will launch its products in these markets in phases. Personal audio products, smartwatches and charging solutions will be introduced first. The portfolio will then be widened based on the preferences and demand of local customers.
Speaking on the expansion, boAt Chief Executive Officer Gaurav Nayyar said, "For us, international expansion does not mean merely taking the same products to more markets. It means understanding each market and making the brand relevant to the needs of customers there."
Nayyar added, "The strong growth of the international business makes our confidence in this opportunity firmer. Our clear goal is to make boAt, built in India, a lifestyle and technology brand for customers across the world. On the strength of products, design and new experiments, we are ready to compete in the international market."
The overseas expansion is being strongly supported by boAt Labs, the company's in-house research and development centre in India. More than 100 engineers work at the centre and keep developing new products.
Alongside its core audio business, the company's wearables business also turned profitable in financial year 2026. This is helping boAt emerge quickly as a broader consumer technology company.
In the coming time, boAt is considering new opportunities to expand into other high-potential markets in South Asia, South-East Asia and the GCC region, while consolidating its hold in its existing international markets.
