Shrinath Bhimale has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for 13 TMC more water for Pune between November 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027, saying the remaining quota will fall short.

Pune, November 6, 2026: Shrinath Bhimale, chairman of the standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to provide the city an additional 13 TMC of water between November 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027, that is, until the next monsoon arrives. He has also demanded that water released from dams into canals and rivers during the monsoon not be counted against the city's annual water quota.

Bhimale met Fadnavis in Pune on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum of his demands.

At the Pune district canal committee meeting on October 29, a water quota of 13.2 TMC was sanctioned for the city for the period from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The quota is said to cover the whole year, including the monsoon months.

Of the sanctioned quota, 6.35 TMC had been used by the end of October. That leaves only 7.15 TMC for the remaining eight months until June 2027.

Pune's population has crossed 7 million, and the city needs about 1.5 TMC of water every month. Even with a 10 per cent water cut in force, the city will need about 12 TMC over the next eight months.

Bhimale said the remaining quota is likely to fall short of the city's needs. He therefore appealed to the Chief Minister to direct officials to provide Pune a separate 13 TMC of water until the next monsoon.
