Pune senior citizens to pay half fare on PMPML buses from November 1

Senior citizens travelling by bus in Pune will pay half the fare from November 1, 2026. Passengers aged 60 or above will pay only half the regular fare on buses of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).

The concession will apply in the Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and PMRDA areas, making daily travel cheaper for elderly passengers using PMPML buses in all three.

The concession is not limited to single-journey tickets. It will also apply to the daily pass. PMPML's daily pass currently costs Rs 70. Once the new rates come into force, eligible senior citizens will get the same pass for Rs 35. Ordinary tickets will also be 50 per cent cheaper on all routes on which PMPML runs buses.

The proposal was moved by Shrinath Bhimale, chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation's standing committee. After it advanced, PMPML's board of directors approved it. Following the approval, the revised fare structure is set to come into effect at the start of November.

Passengers will have to show proof of age to claim the concession. The passenger must have completed 60 years of age, and must carry a valid document confirming their age while travelling.

A PAN card or a senior citizen identity card issued by PMPML can be shown for verification. The document must clearly show the passenger's full date of birth. Documents that do not carry the full date of birth may not be accepted as proof of age.

The decision will benefit elderly people who depend on the bus for daily errands. Those who travel several times a day and buy a daily pass will also gain, as the pass will cost Rs 35 instead of Rs 70. Eligible senior citizens who rely on the bus for daily travel will pay half the fare on both tickets and passes.
