Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar opened the 565-metre overbridge and performed the bhoomipujan of the new PCMC 'L' ward office building.

Pimpri Chinchwad, November 6, 2026: Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district Guardian Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar inaugurated the Pimpri Dairy Farm railway overbridge. At the same event, she performed the bhoomipujan of the new building of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) 'L' ward office. The bridge was thus inaugurated and the new building launched in a single function.

Mayor Ravi Landge presided over the event. MLAs Uma Khapre and Amit Gorkhe, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, former Mayor Yogesh Behl and municipal commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi were on the stage.

The overbridge is 565 metres long and 17.2 metres wide. The sanctioned tender cost of building it is about Rs 65.28 crore. With it in service, railway gate number 60 on the Mumbai-Pune rail route can be closed permanently.

The project has several components. It has a 240-metre viaduct, and a separate 45-metre viaduct that passes over the railway tracks. An approach road of 135 metres has been built on the Dapodi-Nigdi side, while the approach road on the Pimpri side is 145 metres long. A separate footpath has also been provided on the bridge for pedestrians, so that they do not have to walk among vehicles.

People travelling from Dapodi-Nigdi Road towards Pimpri village will no longer have to wait for a train to pass to cross the rail line. They will go straight over the bridge.

Residents of Pimpri, Pimple Saudagar and Rahatani will also benefit. They will get a shorter route to Dapodi-Nigdi Road and Sant Tukaram Nagar metro station.

The new connection is expected to ease the traffic jams on Indira Gandhi bridge via Shagun Chowk. Those using this route will save time, fuel and effort.
