A Class 9 student stabbed a minor girl from his own class at a well-known school in Pune's Mhalunge-Balewadi area on Friday afternoon. The incident took place on the seventh floor of the school. The boy is said to be the son of an IT engineer.
The attack happened at around 2.15 pm on Friday, October 23. The girl was injured and has been admitted to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is stable.
The quarrel began on a school trip. The students had gone to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani between October 17 and 19. There, the injured girl and her friends were dancing, and the boy shot a video of her on his mobile phone.
When the girls objected, he deleted the video. But it is alleged that he recovered it from the recycle bin and posted it on Instagram. When the girl and her friends found out, they pressed the boy with the help of their friends and had the video taken down from Instagram.
The boy is said to have nursed anger over the removal of the video. Out of this grudge, he attacked the girl with a knife in school on Friday in a life-threatening assault. There had been an exchange of words among the children over the video earlier as well.
Bavdhan police reached the spot on receiving news of the incident. Police have recorded the injured girl's statement, and the process of registering a case is under way. The boy accused of the attack, who in the eyes of the law is a child in conflict with the law, has been taken into custody. Police are investigating further.
The school has meanwhile expelled the accused student. There is considerable anger among people after the incident.
