A minor girl was attacked with a knife in Mhalunge village, under the Bavdhan police station limits in Pune, at around 2.15 pm today. The girl was injured and has been admitted to hospital. Her condition is stable and she is undergoing treatment.
Some incidents among schoolchildren are a cause for concern. It is being observed that excessive use of mobile phones, or watching reels, is leading some children to imitate serious crimes.
According to preliminary information from the police, a school trip from Mhalunge village went to Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar on October 17 and 18. During the trip, girls were dancing at an event. A child in conflict with law, a Class 9 student, sent a video of this to his Instagram account. The video led to an argument among the children, after which the boy had to delete it.
Preliminary information is that the boy, nursing anger over this, attacked the girl with a knife this afternoon. The girl is being treated in hospital.
Police have meanwhile recorded the injured girl's statement and are taking steps to register a case. Bavdhan police have detained the child in conflict with law accused of the attack. Police are investigating the incident further.
It has been said that the case involves an upscale school. The injured girl's family is highly educated. The parents of the child who carried out the attack are also highly educated, and his father holds a senior position in a large company. They say they simply cannot believe that their son would take such an extreme step.
