Projects worth about Rs 21,800 crore will be launched, including the Pink Line and Phase 2 corridors costing around Rs 13,500 crore.

Pune, November 2, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Line 3 of the Pune Metro, also known as the Pink Line, on November 3. At the same event he will lay the foundation stone for four new metro corridors under Phase 2. The total estimated cost of all these projects is around Rs 21,800 crore, and they are expected to boost public transport in the city considerably.

The event will be held at 12.30 pm through video conferencing. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

The Pink Line has been built with an investment of more than Rs 8,300 crore. It is about 23 km long and connects Maan with the District Court metro station. It will provide a direct metro link from the Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar. Thousands of IT professionals and other daily commuters will have another travel option.

The new line will also connect to the existing Pune Metro network, and interchange facilities will let passengers reach other parts of the city. It is hoped that people will depend less on their vehicles, road congestion will ease and vehicular pollution will fall.

A distinctive feature of Metro Line 3 is that its trains will be run entirely by women train operators. The project also focuses on renewable energy, with a plan to meet about 30 per cent of its power requirement from solar power.

Besides inaugurating the Pink Line, Modi will lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase 2, with an estimated investment of about Rs 13,500 crore. It includes four corridors: Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A. The aim is to improve connectivity to the city's growing residential, commercial and IT areas.

The proposed Lines 2A and 2B will have a combined length of about 12.75 km. Line 2A will run from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, while Line 2B will connect Ramwadi with Vitthalwadi. Line 4 is 25.52 km long and will run from Kharadi to Khadakwasla. Line 4A will be 6.12 km long, between Nal Stop and Manik Baug.

The Phase 2 expansion will make it easier for the metro to reach several important places, including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment and Warje. The proposed extension from Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi will strengthen connectivity to the fast-growing residential and commercial areas of Kharadi and Wagholi.

The new corridors will also be linked to the existing Pune Metro network and to intercity bus services. Interchange facilities are planned at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass so that passengers can move easily from one system to another.

With the inauguration of Line 3 and the start of Phase 2 work, Pune is set to take another major step in expanding its mass rapid transit. The projects are expected to make travel easier between major employment centres, residential areas and commercial hubs, and to give people more public transport options.
