A 15 per cent water cut has come into force in Panvel and CIDCO-administered areas, with supply shut for 24 hours one day a week or on alternate days, until further orders.

A 15 per cent water cut has come into force from November in several areas under Panvel and CIDCO. Rainfall this year fell short of expectations, and many cities face the threat of water scarcity. The administration has taken the step so that the available water stock lasts until the next monsoon. Under the cut, water supply in each division will be shut for a continuous 24 hours one day a week.

Maharashtra received less rain this year because of the El Nino effect. The retreating monsoon also disappointed, and the state recorded lower than expected rainfall. The effect of the weak rain had begun to show in some areas during the monsoon itself, and water shortages arose in many places.

In view of this, the state government issued a Government Resolution on October 5, 2026. It says the available water stock should be managed economically, on a priority basis and with planning until August 31, 2027. The government has asked municipal corporations and citizens to use water carefully. It has also directed that a special drive be run to stop water leakage.

In line with the state government's directions, CIDCO has also planned its water stock. To avoid a possible shortage, a 15 per cent cut has been imposed in the various divisions under CIDCO. The cut, which began in November, will continue until further orders. Separate schedules have been fixed for different areas.

Under the schedule, water will be shut for 24 hours every Monday in Kharghar. In Ulwe, Sectors 2, 3, 5, 6, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 25-A, along with Gavhan, Koper and Morave, will have no water on Tuesdays. In Taloja, supply will be shut on Fridays.

Ulwe Sectors 8, 9, 10-B, 15-C, 16, 17 and 18, along with Shelghar, Bamandongri, Nhava, Shivajinagar and Nhava Khadi, will get water on alternate days. The same arrangement will apply in Dronagiri Sectors 1, 2, 11, 12, 15, 30, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55. Dhutum, Bhendkhal, Pagote, Funde, Navghar, Navghar Pada, Bokadvira and Kunde will also get supply on alternate days.

Water will be shut for 24 hours every Monday in New Panvel East and every Tuesday in New Panvel West. Supply will be shut on Wednesdays in Kalamboli, on Thursdays in Karanjade, and on Fridays in Kalundre and Kamothe.

CIDCO has appealed to residents to use drinking water very carefully and only as needed during the cut. Drinking water must not be used to wash vehicles, and those found doing so will face punitive action. Residents have also been asked to ensure that water tanks in homes and housing societies do not overflow.

Dripping taps or pipes at home should be repaired immediately. Taps should not be left open when not needed. Stored water should not be thrown away merely because it is stale. Drinking water should not be used for the city's swimming pools either. Punitive action will be taken for breaking these rules. The administration has appealed to people in the Panvel and CIDCO area to cooperate by avoiding wastage of water.
