Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has praised the courage of 20-year-old Aarya Kamble, who saved the lives of 70 to 80 residents during a major fire at night in a housing society in Pimpri-Chinchwad. In a letter to her, the Chief Minister congratulated her on her bravery and presence of mind.
The incident took place in the Kunal Market area of Chinchwad. At around 1.45 am, a fire broke out in the society's parking area and quickly went out of control. The 70 to 80 residents of the society were fast asleep at the time. Smoke and flames had reached the door of Aarya's home, so it was not possible to open it.
Aarya first called the fire brigade. Her father was alarmed by the situation at home, but she decided to face it. Despite her father's objections, she jumped from the gallery of her first-floor home. She suffered a serious injury to her leg in the jump, but did not stop. Ignoring her pain, she woke the residents and asked everyone to come out and go up to the terrace. She also made sure that everyone had left their homes.
By the time firefighters arrived, 21 vehicles parked in the parking area had been reduced to ashes. They included 17 two-wheelers and four four-wheelers. But because of Aarya, no one lost their life.
In his letter, the Chief Minister wrote that saving others' lives by risking one's own in a time of crisis is a living example of courage and presence of mind. According to him, Aarya's bravery averted a heavy loss of life. Addressing her, he wrote that her effort to save others despite the injury to her leg was an act of great courage.
In the letter, the Chief Minister said Maharashtra has inherited a tradition of brave men and many brave women. According to him, in the present day, a step taken calmly in an emergency and action taken with careful thought are no less than an act of valour. He wrote that losses can be made good, but a fearless jump made to save lives is unmatched.
The Chief Minister also said Aarya had set an example before the new generation of Maharashtra and that her courage would inspire many people. On behalf of the whole of Maharashtra, he saluted her. He also congratulated all members of the Kamble family and wished Aarya a bright future. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has earlier honoured her for her bravery.
