Teen dies after scooter skids and he falls under Innova on Bhimashankar Road in Rajgurunagar

A 17-year-old schoolboy died on the spot in a crash on Bhimashankar Road in Rajgurunagar, Pune district. The entire accident was recorded on a CCTV camera in the area.

The boy has been identified as Vedant Sahane. He was riding a two-wheeler on the road when he saw an Innova car coming towards him and braked hard and suddenly. The oncoming vehicle was moving fast, and as soon as he braked Vedant lost control and the scooter skidded forward.

Vedant fell on the road and came under a wheel of the oncoming Innova. He died on the spot.

The CCTV video of the accident is going viral on social media.

The incident has cast a pall of mourning over the area. Serious questions are being raised once again about letting minors ride vehicles and about road safety. Loss of control of a two-wheeler in a crowded place led to the accident. People are worried about the dangers that persist on the roads every day.

Some road safety points are being repeated: do not give minors a motorcycle to ride; hand a vehicle to a child only if the child has a licence; teach children to follow speed limits and to keep control of the vehicle; and always wear a helmet.
