A woman and her six-year-old son died in Wakad, Pimpri-Chinchwad, after jumping from the 18th floor of the society where they lived.

A 33-year-old woman and her six-year-old son died on Friday evening, October 30, 2026, after going over the edge of the 18th floor of a high-rise at Signature Park, a housing society in the Dange Chowk area of Wakad, Pimpri Chinchwad. The deaths have left the neighbourhood shaken.

The victims are Ekta Manoj Bhangad and her son Madhav. Ekta, 33, had lived in the same complex for several years with her husband, Manoj Bhangad, and the boy. Manoj is reported to work at an IT company, and one account places his employer in Yerawada.

Senior Police Inspector Vitthal Salunkhe of Wakad police station said the incident took place at around 6 pm. Another account puts the time closer to 6.30 pm. Police were told of the incident and a team reached the complex soon afterwards to begin an inquiry. Officers found that both had fallen from the 18th floor, and that they went down from the top of the building. A forensic team is helping the police prepare a panchnama of the spot.

Police later found a three-page suicide note at the spot. According to information available so far, the note speaks of the woman's illness and of her worry about her son's future. It is said that she wrote that she was weary of being ill and was ending her life, and that she was taking the child along because he would miss her once she was gone.

Residents of the society have expressed shock and grief. Even so, officials have been careful about drawing conclusions. Inspector Salunkhe had said earlier that the circumstances were being examined and that the exact cause of the deaths had not yet come to light. Police say the actual reason behind the incident is still unclear. They are studying what the note says along with other aspects of the case, and the investigation by Wakad police is continuing.
